National Day of Silence

April 12, 2024

The GLSEN National Day of Silence is an annual day of action to spread awareness about the effects of the bullying and harassment of LGBTQ+ students. It happens annually on the second Friday in April. The next National Day of Silence will be on April 12, 2024.

Some of the ways that students can participate in the National Day of Silence are:

  • Taking a vow of silence for the day or part of the day and wearing a sticker or a button that explains why they are silent.
  • Creating posters, flyers, or videos that educate others about the issues faced by LGBTQ+ students and how to support them.
  • Organizing a break-the-silence rally, assembly, or event at the end of the day to celebrate the voices of LGBTQ+ students and allies.
  • Sharing their experiences and stories on social media using the hashtag #DayofSilence.

If you are interested in joining the National Day of Silence, you can register online at [GLSEN’s website] and get access to free resources and materials. You can also find out more about the history and purpose of the day at Day of Silence | GLSEN.
