Become a Volunteer

Safe Schools Desert Cities volunteers are the backbone of our organization and crucial in our ability to serve the community. As a volunteer, you will join a dedicated, committed and hardworking group of people supporting our community. There are opportunities for volunteers in several areas throughout the year.  We want your experience as a volunteer to be enjoyable and memorable. Tell us about your interests, availability and skills, and we’ll do our best to find a fulfilling role for you. Your success and satisfaction as a volunteer is our priority! Please fill out the online application below or email us for more information. We will be back in touch with you to see if we can find just the right opportunity for you within our organization.

Step-By-Step Process

  • Complete the Online Volunteer Application
  • Once your application has been reviewed, our Volunteer Coordinator and/or a board member will contact you to setup an interview.  After the interview, we will contact your references and make a final decision.
  • If you have been tentatively selected as a volunteer, you will be given the information and forms to get a Live Scan (finger printing and background check).  After the Live Scan has been completed and the results have been received by the Safe Schools Desert Cities custodian of record, you will be contacted regarding the status of your application.
  • You are responsible for the cost of the Live Scan (usually around $20).  You can review the locations and estimated costs, by clicking here.  If this is a financial burden, please contact us prior to being Live Scanned.

volunteerLive Scan Policy
Adopted September 2013

Beginning in the fall of 2013, Safe School Desert Cities volunteer policy will include finger printing and background check (Live Scan) that must be completed specifically for Safe Schools Desert Cities. The Live scan is completely confidential and is required of all volunteers, age 18 and over including members of the Safe Schools Desert Cities board of directors. The necessary Live Scan forms provided by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of California will be available directly from the Safe Schools Desert Cities’ Custodian of Record. The Live Scan results must be received by the Custodian of Record prior to beginning service as a volunteer. The Custodian of Record will hold the results confidentially.  The live scan must be renewed on an annual basis.

With the exception of GSA advisors*, a small fee (approximately $20) will be paid directly to the Live Scan vendor by the applicant unless the Custodian of Record deems otherwise.  *GSA advisors will be reimbursed by Safe Schools Desert Cities.

Note:
Because Safe Schools Desert Cities is a not-for-profit organization serving youth, fees usually charged for the live scan are waived by the Department of Justice.  The only fee required is the minimal processing fee which is paid directly to the live scan vendor of your choice.
